For over 14 years, OPUS for Person-to-Person has been a
positive force for change in the local community. OPUS was formed when a group
of 90 women met on a snowy Valentine’s Day to learn more about a local charity
called Person-to-Person, and how they could play a part in its important work.
Person-to-Person is a non-profit organization that has
dedicated over 40 years of service to helping others in Darien’s neighboring
communities. Each year, tens of thousands of people receive assistance
including food and clothing donations, scholarship grants, layettes for babies,
living assistance loans, campership and more. Upon learning of all the
wonderful ways in which Person-to-Person was helping people to improve their
lives, OPUS for Person-to-Person was founded in order to build awareness and
raise funds on a year-round basis for this meaningful charity. The name “OPUS”
was chosen for the organization because of its Latin meaning, which is “great
works.”
Since then, OPUS for Person-to-Person has grown to over
200 members. That founding core of women and the growing membership today have
something in common. All have joined this organization to make a difference,
and by so generously volunteering their time and effort, have allowed OPUS to
live up to its mission statement and its Latin definition of “great works.”
This pooling of talent has also ensured many successful and fun events that
families from Darien and neighboring towns have come to expect and enjoy, year
after year. To date, OPUS has raised over two million dollars for
Person-to-Person. We are grateful for your ongoing enthusiasm, creativity and
support. Keep up the great works!
